A push up with the hands on a bench, which lightens the load so you can own the full range. For upper body strength and as a step in shoulder rehab.

How to do it

Place the hands on a bench just wider than the shoulders and walk the feet back until the body is in a straight line. Lower the chest toward the bench with the elbows at about 45 degrees, then press back up. The lower the surface, the harder it gets: wall, bench, then the floor.

Common mistake

Letting the hips sag or the shoulders shrug toward the ears. If you can't keep a straight line, raise the hands higher.
